Its Always Sad When the Show You Like Stops Airing
Overview
Originally made for ShroomJam 2025, this is a game about going inside a crt-tv and exploring different programs. I wanted to focus on storytelling and, to do that, I structured the game into 3 different levels (which I called channels in order to keep with the theme). Each channel would have a definite start, middle and ending. I thought of each level as a theatre play scene with the player as an actor.
Since the game is 3D, and my computer is very old, I ran into various problems with performance in the editor. To solve that, I made the executive decision to reduce the size of the levels and remove every element that wasn’t abolutelly necessary. That made the game feel empty, so I leant into that and used it to create an unique atmosphere.
I think good storytelling is not just done with words. The enviroment, the atmosphere, the audio, and the aesthetics, all that can help set the tone from the moment the game start. I put a lot of care into that. More than gameplay.

What I learned in this project
- How to structure gameplay sequences in order to tell a story
- How to make the most of a theme
- How to turn limitations or problems into storytelling opportunities
